Anyone have a spare they wanna sell me (for stereo. I tend to think of Newcomb as more of an industrial-sound/PA sound company, but it looks like they made some home units too.

On EBay, you could get $5K if there is a bidding frenzy. You could also get taken. Korean and Italian buyers are among the largest prominent sharks in vintage circles. You get around the shipping problem by noting a couple shipping companies in your auction, like Craters and Freighters, and let the buyer be responsible for pickup and shipping entirely. Yours has the 18' woofer and the 12' midwoofer, but I can't tell for certaing if the horns are Altec or Stephens.

The first letter translates to the year and the second to the month. The reissue amps also made use of this code. Example: FG=July 1956, QA=January 1967, and a reissue CG=July 1992 Additional Information: EIA Source-Date Codes: Electronic components such as transformers, potentiometers, speakers, and some capacitors are often stampted with a date code indicating who manufactured them and when. The code follows the format: XXXYY ZZ where: XXX = a two or three (possibly four on newer amps) digit number indicating the manufacturer. (see chart below) YY = is a one or two digit code indicating the year.

People in the know knew about this stuff.’ See and for previous PILOT coverage on Preservation Sound. Pilot was one of the classic NYC Golden-Age Hi-Fi makers (). Although the Pilotuner mono FM tuner series was their most iconic product, the Pilotrol was their flagship offering.

Dating the pot will get you in the ball park but those pots could have been sitting around for a long time before they made their way into a pedal. From Analogman's web site: The easiest way to date pedals is the same way you date some guitars and amps - by the POT CODES. EH, MXR, and most US made effects used pots with EIA date codes on them. They usually start with 137 which is the manufacturer (137 = CTS), then the next digits are the year and week. For example, 137 7903 would be a CTS pot, made in the 3rd week of 1979. Sometimes there are only 6 digits, for example 304731 would be 304 (stackpole) 7=1947 or 1957, 31st week.

The next one or two numbers are the month where January is 1 and December is 12. The last two numbers are the year. Example: AB763 = second revision, July, 1963 AA1070 = First revision, October, 1970 Misc Dating Info: Silver face amps with the aluminum trimmed grilles are from 67 or 69. The fist Master volume controls were first installed in 72. The raised “Fender” grille logo lost its tail around 76. There are exceptions to this rule like the the Bronco.

However, the BBC (at that time a major client of AKG microphones) complained strongly about the restriction of just 3 polar patterns (plus some problems with an easily-distorting FET amplifier) and put significant pressure on AKG’s R&D team to remedy the situation. Thus the C414 was born. The first models (C414C with Din-standard connector, or C414E with XLR-standard connector) shared the same AKG-custom stand mount (shared equally by C12A, C12B, C412 & early C414) and the same “brass” CK12 capsule. However, they sported a redesigned amplifier (which placed the attenuator pad between capsule & FET element, thus avoiding the overload issues of C412’s design) and a 4-polar pattern switch. Next version was the classic-of-classics C414EB which greatly benefited from the addition of a 3-position pad switch (0/-10/-20dB) a 3-position HPF switch (flat/75Hz/ 150Hz) and the loss of the AKG-custom mount in favour of a direct XLR output connection.

Ethan Wetzell, Electro-Voice Technical Services. Webmaster’s note: At first I was concerned that the Electro-Voice Model 664 would break with tradition on this site, since all other microphones seen on these pages were used or are still being used at broadcast facilities and music recording studios. The 664 does not fit these categories. But after talking with Mr.

Electro-Voice Model 664 cardioid dynamic microphone Description and Applications The Electro-Voice Model 664 is a cardioid microphone of the dynamic type with only one moving element. It is designed specifically for public address applications. The cardioid pattern is obtained through use of three sound entrances located in the back of the diaphragm. These three sound entrances, each utilizing the proper acoustical impedance, combine to form one effective back entrance which varies in distance from the diaphragm inversely with frequency. The resulting phase and amplitude conditions produce a uniform cardioid pattern over a wide frequency range. This variable front-to-back distance along with dynamic-type construction affords high resistance to mechanical shock and eliminates proximity effect. The Model 664 is an all-purpose public address microphone designed to fulfill requirements of wide-range reproduction under a great variety of conditions.

Crossover points are approximately 400 hz and 4000 hz. Feature dual 1/4' inputs mounted on wood panels. Look & work excellent. One pair available. SCU007027 $150.00 pair - 8 ohm 200 watt model originally used with 15' woofer and flat face horn. Plastic dish measures 6 1/2' x 7 3/4' and features dual 1/4' inputs. Looks and works excellent.

This variable front-to-back distance along with dynamic-type construction affords high resistance to mechanical shock and eliminates proximity effect. The Model 664 is an all-purpose public address microphone designed to fulfill requirements of wide-range reproduction under a great variety of conditions. Because of its excellent and uniform polar response, it is especially useful in locations where acoustic feedback, ambient noise, and severe reverberation exist. The preferred instrument for serious home and semi-professional recording, the 664 is also an ideal choice for quality sound reinforcement systems, particularly where acoustic problems exist. It is equipped with a pop-proof wire mesh grille which minimizes wind and breath blasts.

To change from high to 150-ohm impedance, move white lead at terminal 2 to terminal 3. See Figure A. • Output Level: 150 ohm, –58 dB, EIA sensitivity rating, –149 dB. High Impedance, –58 dB, EIA sensitivity rating, –151 dB. • Polar Pattern: Cardioid, uniform front-to-back discrimination.

There are several ways to determine when a Fender amp was produced. First use the cosmetic features to get a range of possible years. Next, (if applicable) look for the date code on the tube chart. If your amp dosen’t have a date code, flip the amp upside-down and check the transformers, and speakers for their manufacturer codes.

So check them carefully! If you see 7932 on the bottom of a chip, you can be pretty sure it is a date code for 1979.

If it’s a one digit year you need to determine the correct decade of the amp some other way. ZZ = a number from 1 – 52 indicating the week of the year. Remember, your amp is newer than the newest component.

In 3 digit dates code, the 1st digit is the last digit of the year. On 4 digits date codes, the 1st and 2nd digits are the last two digits of the year. In either case, the remaining 2 digits are the week of manufacture (01 to 52).

The business closed its doors in 2000. According to the, 'contamination at the site resulted from Electro-Voice’s discharge of electroplating wastes into two clay-lined lagoons from 1952 to 1962, and from the disposal of paint wastes and solvents into a drywell from 1964 to 1973. The waste disposal activities caused groundwater to become contaminated with chemicals called volatile organic compounds, or VOCs. Following construction of the site’s long-term remedy, operation and maintenance activities and monitoring are ongoing'. Construction of the site’s long-term remedy finished in 1999, with the EPA reporting, 'soil cleanup included construction of a clay cap and active treatment by an in-place ventilation and volatilization system. Groundwater remediation is ongoing through monitored natural attenuation of pollutants'. See also [ ] • • References [ ].

I recently worked with a contractor/tech from a major live-sound company who had 1/2 the stage mic’d with these things, swears by ’em anyway, I am super-curious. They are apparently very hi-fi with very accurate off-axis response. More to come While on the subject of dynamic mics above, the Turner Model 10 circa 1972. Those of you who’ve been following PS for a while will know that I am a big fan of obscure Turner models, especially the flagship models like the 510 I recently bought my second 510 for and I have to sadly report that it is not as awesome as the example I have had for years Anyway, the Model 10 seems to have been a replacement for the 500/510 series might be a good purchase for anyone looking for more interesting dynmics mics Above, the AKG D190 and D124! Finally some info on the D124 these turn up in my old 70s AKG catalogs (most of which you can download here on PS dot com), and I actually use this as the at GCR, but I had not realized that it was the replacement for the D-24.

Number of employees soars to 500, daily production peaks at 2,500, with total production close to 1 million. 1945: Burroughs receives a special citation from the U.S. War department for the T-45 microphone. Kahn is told by a Marine Corps officer that the historic landing at Guadalcanal was held up several weeks until troops could be equipped with the mic in order to reduce casualties. 1946: EV transfers operation to facilities in Buchanan, Michigan, later expanded several times. The company remained at the facility for almost 60 years.

• Impedance: 150 ohm and high impedance. 150-ohm impedance is balanced to ground. Microphone is wired for high impedance unless 150 ohm is requested. • Impedance Selection: Selection is made at cable plug. To change from high to 150-ohm impedance, move white lead at terminal 2 to terminal 3.
