The gun was made by SKB in Japan and imported by Ithaca, starting in 1966. I don't know when your particular gun was made. Any of y'all know anything about the Ithaca model 600. I already have a 28 and 20 ga in the 685 variety, and now have a 12 on the way as well. It is slated to replace a Citori sporting gun, if that tells you anything about what I think of them. I actually break more birds with my 28 and 20 ga SKB's than I do with my 12 ga Browning.

The SKB's locking lever is supposed to be centered. It's the Browning's that are right-of-center, due to the different way they lock up. The SKB has a cross bolt, the Brownings have a locking bolt that fits in the breech cutouts. Completely different locking systems.

Just to throw in two more cents the first gun I ever bought on my own was a mod. 100 12ga 26' in 1979. I was in the Army in Alaska as a PFC and had no money. Found the gun listed at the rod and gun club on the bulletin board for $200.00 and bought it.

Maybe a forum header about model variations or links to the information would be helpful. I am a new guy on this board and I saw your posting for Ithaca Serial Numbers and went to the site because I have an OLD 'New Ithaca Gun'. That is what it says on the side of the receiver. I finally figured out how to find the actual serial numbers and then went to check and see what I actually had. I thought it was a 12 gauge but it seems it is a 10 gauge instead.

Unfortunately nobody has found records of them, I do believe that the trigger group and the safety is the same for the 12 gauge and the 20 gauge. Ron Sharp in Canada has some stock on those guns and might have the right hand safety. He is in Canada and he used to work for Ithaca and has a huge amount of parts. If you need his phone number I can personal message you it. They are a real pretty gun. The barrels are not blued they are chrome, black outside, silver inside. The last a lot longer and finger prints don't bother them.

I have always wanted a decent o/u 12 bore and just recently found a Ithaca model 500-made by SKB. It is a field grade gun in NRA 95% cond. I have not heard alot about any SKB models so any thoughts would be welcome. At that price, you should be shelling out the Grants as fast as you can. SKBs are excellent shotguns. The M500 is merely their entry level shotgun, mainly just missing fancy-work and choke tubes. The internal parts are outstanding - easily rivaling Browning Citoris.
